What to prepare when meeting with a Wedding and Event Planner?

Before meeting with your wedding and event planner, there is a bit of “homework” you’ll need to do first. Trust me though, it’s the fun kind of homework! 🙂 As a wedding and event planner, we have LOTS of innovative ideas and design concepts to bring your event or wedding to the next level. We can make the dream happen, but the one thing we cannot do is envision your special day for you. That is up to you.

So, your first bit of homework is to sit down and think about what feeling you want to give off at your wedding or event. Do you want it to be an intimate affair or a grand occasion? Indoor or outdoors? Destination or local? Once you have an idea of your location and venue, the next step is to start honing in on the details.

We don’t have to get down to the “nitty-gritty” in planning every last detail (for now at least), but one thing you should decide on is what season or month you’d like your wedding or event to take place in. Location plays a big factor when deciding on a date, so just remember to take into consideration the weather at that time of year. For example, though summers up north may be ideal for an outdoor event because it is cool, down south, summers can be brutally hot, so be sure to do your research!

Once you have an idea of what theme or feeling you are going for, we always recommend setting up a Pinterest board. Like they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, and that’s the truth! It’s sometimes hard to explain what you are envisioning, so start pinning pictures of anything and everything that catches your eye, from tiny details of table numbers to florals and décor. The more information we know about you and your personal taste, the better we can make your special day or event unique and custom to you.

Last but not least, one of the most important items to discuss is your budget. Budget can be a scary topic, but as your wedding and event planner, one of our specialties is allocating your budget to areas that will get you the biggest bang for your buck! Set a ballpark budget of what you are able to spend, and make a list of areas that are most important to you when planning your wedding or event. Do you want to have a bigger budget on entertainment, food, décor, invitations etc.? Take the time to think about what means the most to you, and also what you want your guests talking about when they leave your event.

Remember, our ultimate goal is simple: For you to be a guest at your own party!
